The iconic British apparel brand launches new app to strengthen online presence and performance

The unprecedented Coronavirus crisis has created huge economic challenges in nearly every industry and aspect of life around the world, and few more so than in the sporting goods and retail sectors. But in adapting to these fast-evolving changes, Gill has continued their sustained digital investment to ensure the iconic technical apparel marine and fishing brand can meet the demands of their consumers and retail partners in an uncertain and vastly different future.

Investment in digital has been a cornerstone of Gill’s five-year growth plans, which were launched in 2017, and the senior management have retained their commitment to invest through the last few turbulent months and going forward. For customers, Gill has recently launched their first consumer app and moved to the latest SaaS e-commerce web platform which has improved server response time by 41%. Gill has also created a dedicated app for their wholesale partners to better support and optimize business operations and efficiencies. With a 46% year on year growth in online sales and a 22% rise in global users there is a steep upward trend in online sales and with gold status achieved in Year 1 in the USA for impartial reviews on Feefo, the investment and development continue apace.

Gill's Mobile SiteJamie Tunnicliffe, Gill’s CEO, noted, “The retail landscape was rapidly changing even before the shocking impact of the global Coronavirus crisis and Gill remains committed to our long-term investment in digital solutions to ensure the brand continues to thrive and grow in an unpredictable climate. We are a brand that is not afraid to take bold decisions to move with the times; in the last financial year alone we have spent six figures on digital development, which we think sets up the brand for an exciting future and we will continue to invest heavily through 2020 and 2021 to reflect the new ways of doing business.

“We always want to give our customers the best shopping experience we can, and we are proud of our new BigCommerce web platform and apps; we need to ensure that we grow e-commerce alongside our traditional wholesale and use it to help us enhance how we engage with our consumers and customers. We also believe it will help us support and work better with our retailers and distributors to manage stock levels, staffing and optimize all areas of operations for both Gill and our trade partners, so we also developed a tailored trade app which has already had fantastic feedback.”
