LOOKOUT Wins NMMA 2025 Innovation Award at IBEX

October 28, 2025

LOOKOUT, the AI pioneer in marine safety, has been awarded the 2025 IBEX Innovation Award for Marine Electronics.

Each year, the National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA) appoints a panel of expert judges to review hundreds of new products and present the winners during the Industry Breakfast event, attended by hundreds of boat builders, dealers, and press.

“LOOKOUT has integrated its advanced AI vision cameras with a Coast Guard-certified navigation light, creating an all-in-one solution,” explained Steve Mitchell, a reviewer for Panbo, 48° North, SeaBits, and one of the Innovation Award Judges. “It simplifies installation while delivering always-on hazard detection – spotting vessels, debris, and wildlife for unmatched safety on the water.”

LOOKOUT’s all-around white navigation/anchor light from marine lighting leader Lumitec looks small, however it is Coast Guard rated for two nautical miles. Since both the camera and light require top-of-mast placement for maximum camera range and federal compliance, combining them into a single unit provides optimal hazard detection without installation headaches. The AI camera is trained to automatically identify and track buoys, debris, logs, other vessels, and marine wildlife, displaying targets directly on Garmin, Raymarine, Furuno, or Simrad MFDs.

The system works on 20-foot wakesport models to 65-foot cruisers, enhancing safety for both recreational and commercial vessels. LOOKOUT solves the top five causes for boating accidents, according to the U.S. Coast Guard, including operator inattention and improper lookout. Developed by a team of AI researchers and 3D visualization experts, LOOKOUT displays information in an easy-to-understand design with graphics superimposed over the video stream, or a new 3D aerial view similar to a Tesla car. The result is increased captain confidence and better decision-making with a new level of situational awareness, day or night.

“We’re honored to be recognized among so many innovative products,” said David Rose, CEO of LOOKOUT. “What customers love about LOOKOUT is simplicity. Boats already have sonar, radar, AIS, cameras, and charts, but they’re all in separate displays. We bring those sources of truth together into a single, intuitive view that’s easy to understand. This award validates that the industry sees the value in that integration.”

Good Advice that You Can Share – The Art of Anchoring

Unless a boat is secured, it will drift away. If it cannot be attached to something secure, such as a dock, piling, mooring buoy, tree, or boulder, it must be anchored. There is much more to anchoring than simply tossing the anchor over the side.

An anchoring system has two parts: the anchor itself and the rode which connects the anchor to the boat. To be effective, an anchor must have good holding power, and the rode must be strong enough to withstand the strains that are put on it.
