The first annual Port Credit Boat Show is 85% sold out. GARMIN ENTERS AGREEMENT TO ACQUIRE ASSETS OF FUSION ELECTRONICS
Garmin Ltd. has announced that it has entered into an agreement to acquire substantially all of the assets of Fusion Electronics Limited and its subsidiaries. Fusion is a privately-held provider of integrated marine audio equipment, headquartered in Auckland, New Zealand. The completion of the acquisition, which is subject tocustomary conditions, is expected to occur on June 30, 2014. -
SIMRAD YACHTING JOINS THE BILLFISH FOUNDATION
Simrad has announced that it has joined The Billfish Foundation and is one of their 2014 tagging program sponsors. The Foundation has developed the world’s largest private billfish-tagging database as a result of itsTag and Release Program. AkzoNobel’s Yacht Coatings business has announced that it will cease operations at its facility in Union, New Jersey. Production of the Interlux® brand will be transferred to its strategic facility in Houston, Texas where the company manufactures Marine and Protective Coatings for North America. Awlgrip® production will transfer to AkzoNobel’s state of the art facility at Sassenheim in the Netherlands. These changes are part of the business’s strategic goal of consolidating operations at its major locations to enable better customer service, improved operational productivity and investments in technology. -
THE MOORINGS RELEASES NEW CHARTER APP FOR THE BRITISH VIRGIN ISLANDS
Customers with The Moorings will now have access to a range of chartering information for the British Virgin Islands with The Moorings BVI Yacht Charter Guide app. The interactive app will provide charterers with essential information on cruising the BVI and is a preliminary resource before starting a trip as well as a go-to throughout the charter. The app gives access to detailed boating regulations and navigation plus valuable information on BVI dining, safety, and history. -
NMMA PARTICIPATES IN TRANSPORT CANADA RECREATIONAL BOATING ADVISORY MEETING
The bi-annual Canadian Marine Advisory Council (CMAC) meeting hosted in late April by Transport Canada provided the industry with a number of important updates. Transport Canada is planning on amending the regulations for the pleasure craft operator competency program, a process that could take a couple of years to come into effect. The changes being considered would require rental boat providers, course providers and their affiliates follow an accreditation program. In addition, a standard instructor's manual would be implemented for course providers providing training to boaters which they would have to keep updated as per the regulations. -

PROMOTING SAFE BOATING PRACTICES TO CANADIANS
North American Safe Boating Awareness Week will take place across Canada from May 17th to May 23rd, 2014. The purpose of this initiative, managed by the CSBC (Canadian Safe Boating Council) and its partners, is to promote safe and responsible boating practices to the estimated 16 million recreational boaters in Canada. -

CLEAN WAKE PROGRAM TARGETS ONTARIO COTTAGE OWNERS
Recreational boaters can take action for cleaner lakes and better health. Summerhill Impact, in partnership with Environment Canada and Honda Canada Inc., has launched the 2014 Clean Wake Program in Ontario just in time for the start of cottage season. Clean Wake offers recreational boaters a chance to trade-in their old polluting conventional two-stroke outboard engines in exchange for a ten percent discount towards the purchase of a new Honda four-stroke outboard engine. All old and inefficient two-stroke engines collected will be responsibly recycled through certified auto recyclers. -
MCMURDO GROUP COMPLETES ACQUISITION OF TECHNO-SCIENCES
McMurdo Group has announced the successful acquisition of Techno-Sciences, Inc. (TSi), a leading provider of SAR satellite ground stations, integrated emergency response center systems and coastal surveillance solutions. Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. TSi’s Beltsville, Maryland location becomes the U.S. Headquarters for McMurdo Group, a division of Orolia (NYSE Alternext Paris – FR0010501015 – ALORO), global specialist in critical Global Navigation Satellite System solutions. -
COASTAL CRAFT CONCORD 65 DEBUTS AT 2014 VICTORIA HARBOUR BOAT SHOW
Canadian Yachting joined Jeff Rhodes, president of Coastal Craft, on his delivery of the new CC 65 Concord to Victoria’s Inner Harbour for the floating boat show May 1-4. It was our opportunity to experience the performance and ride of this smart, stylish new yacht, the largest launch to date by the Gibsons BC builder.
