PCYC Turns 90 with Electric Innovation

June 9, 2026

As it approaches its 90th anniversary, Port Credit Yacht Club (PCYC) is marking the milestone with a forward-looking investment that signals where boating infrastructure is headed in Canada.

This season, PCYC has introduced a new 40-ton, fully electric marine lift. Designed and built by Canadian supplier Kropf Industrial, it is the first lift of its kind in the country, replacing the Club’s previous 30-ton diesel model. The upgrade significantly increases haul-out capacity while improving efficiency across yard operations.

PCYC has been working with Kropf Industrial for several years on their ongoing dock replacement project. “Kropf has very much been a trusted partner for us in our long-term capital projects,” says Lisa McKay, PCYC’s Commodore. “We were very fortunate to have the opportunity to be a part of the development of the new lift”.

Faster launch

The electric lift delivers faster launch and haul-out times, reduced noise, and enhanced safety for operators and members. Just as importantly, it eliminates diesel emissions and spill risks in the yard, aligning with broader environmental priorities within the marine industry. The low-voltage battery packs are safe, proven and easy to maintain.

“This investment reflects both where we’ve been and where we’re going,” says Lisa. “We’re proud of our history, but equally focused on building a more sustainable and efficient future for our members.”

About PCYC

Founded in 1936 with just 28 members, PCYC has grown into a full-service club with over 700 members, actively supporting both the sailing and powerboating communities. An active social membership provides opportunities for entry-level boaters to “test the waters”. Open year-round, the club’s diverse membership continues to shape its programming, infrastructure, and community culture.

The anniversary season will highlight not only the club’s legacy, but also its ongoing evolution—from youth sailing development and regattas to modernized facilities and member experiences.

The addition of the electric marine lift reinforces PCYC’s role as a leader in adopting new technologies within the Canadian boating landscape—demonstrating that even long-established clubs can drive meaningful innovation.

As the club celebrates nine decades on the water, the message is clear: tradition and progress are not at odds—they move forward together.
