Edmonton Show

Mar 5, 2017

The 2017 Edmonton Boat and Sportsmen’s Show returns to the Expo Centre, Northlands, March 16th – 19th, 2017.

“Outdoorsmen and women are some of the most active leaders in conservation efforts,” says Pamela Ziwani, Show Manager, “they contribute their time and also provide financial support more than any other group.”

Conservation groups will have a significant presence at this year’s Edmonton Boat and Sportsmen’s Show. There is no more dedicated group than the Alberta Hunter Education Instructors Association (AHEIA). They focus on promoting the highest standard of sportsman behaviour, teach and promote the ethical and humane treatment of all living things, improve conservation education and promote communication about these topics. Their area will provide education and hands on hunting, fishing and archery displays as an introduction to the new enthusiast or test the skills of those more experienced.

The Alberta Birds of Prey Foundation from Coaldale, Alberta will be back at the Show with a variety of rare and endangered bird species. Their knowledgeable staff will tell the stories of many of the Centre’s inhabitants and share information with audiences in an attempt to shed some light and inform people as to the work that is being done to rehabilitate and release these birds back into the wild. Take the opportunity to interact with some of these incredible creatures. The Trailrunners K9 dog demos are sure to be a family favourite. These demos highlighting the diverse skills of these well-trained animals, some of which work in law enforcement, the therapy field and as hunters.

The Kids Trout Fishing Pond is always one of the Show’s hot spots. It provides kids under the age of 12 with a chance to try their luck at catching a live trout and releasing it back into the pond. For many, this is their first attempt at fishing which can often spark their passion for the outdoors and all it has to offer. All proceeds from the Fishing Pond benefit the Edmonton Fish and Game Associations.

The National Archery in the School Programs (NASP) National Champions will be taking place throughout this year’s show. Thousands of school aged archers from across the country will compete for the coveted National title.

The next logical step is to check out all the boats and watercraft available for your adventures on the water. Hank Patterson is this year’s special guest on Friday, March 17th. Hank couples his natural “redneckish” humour and his love of fly-fishing and his love of the outdoors in a hilarious show. There will be an opportunity to meet and greet Hank in the Fishin’ Hole’s booth after each of his performances.
