Volvo Penta Coastal Series Corrosion Protection Package named one of the Top Boating Products of the Year

Volvo Penta Coastal Series Corrosion Protection Package

May 9, 2022

Boating Industry magazine editors have named Volvo Penta’s Coastal Series corrosion protection package a top product of 2022.

The Volvo Penta Coastal Series corrosion protection package was featured alongside other top boating products of 2022 in the May issue of Boating Industry, the boating trade magazine. The Boating Industry editorial team selected this year’s finalists from hundreds of nominations, based on the products’ impact on the industry, innovation and how they advanced the respective category.

“Today’s products and services need to be all about keeping people on the water longer, without worrying about the next potential thing to go wrong,” said Adam Quandt, editor-in-chief of Boating Industry. “Volvo Penta’s new Coastal Series corrosion protection package does exactly that for those boating in salt or brackish waters. It gives boaters peace of mind and allows for a better experience on the water all around. That is the exact direction in which our industry needs to focus.”

The Coastal Series corrosion protection package with seven-year coverage for V6 and V8 gasoline sterndrives and Forward Drives incorporates multiple advanced anti-corrosion technologies and countermeasures to maximize protection of the engine and drive components in saltwater. Volvo Penta’s V6 and V8 engines use the latest automotive technology, all-aluminum blocks and closed-loop freshwater cooling. The integrated Coastal Series package includes advanced titanium-ceramic coatings, aluminum exhausts, and sensors with audible and visual warnings of potential saltwater intrusion in the bellow or drive gear lubricant.

The transom flush feature is easily accessible at the transom and in the engine room, facilitating easy engine and drive flushing after each use to ensure no residual saltwater stays within the system. Maintenance is easier than ever with simplified service points on the front of the engine and the convenient Easy Drain solution, allowing raw water to quickly and easily be drained from the engine while the boat is in or out of the water – with a single push of a button.

In addition to the advanced anti-corrosion technologies and countermeasures, Volvo Penta of the Americas offers an unprecedented seven-year coverage plan in North America as standard with the Coastal Series. The added protection is fully transferable when the vessel is sold.

“The Coastal Series countermeasures work together to provide builders, dealers and owners in the North American market an extra boost of confidence in retaining the value of their boats in saltwater environments,” said Jens Bering, vice president of marine sales at Volvo Penta. “This offers boaters a propulsion option with a clean transom to enjoy swimming, diving, fishing, lounging and more.”

Good Advice that You Can Share – The Art of Anchoring

Unless a boat is secured, it will drift away. If it cannot be attached to something secure, such as a dock, piling, mooring buoy, tree, or boulder, it must be anchored. There is much more to anchoring than simply tossing the anchor over the side.

An anchoring system has two parts: the anchor itself and the rode which connects the anchor to the boat. To be effective, an anchor must have good holding power, and the rode must be strong enough to withstand the strains that are put on it.
