Introducing Coastal/Freshwater and Offshore/Saltwater BMEI Courses

The NMEA is responding to the unique needs of marine electronics installers by introducing two tailored versions of the popular Basic Marine Electronics Installer (BMEI) certification course starting in 2025.
 
Installers can now choose between the Coastal/Freshwater MEI or Offshore/Saltwater MEI versions, depending on their geographic location and the type of electronics they typically install.
 
Both versions cover core topics, and there is no difference in the MEI certification issued to those who pass the exam.

Coastal/Freshwater MEI Topics:
General Knowledge, Ohm’s Law, EMI, DC Wiring, Grounds, Batteries & Chargers, Load Calculations, Displays & Black Boxes, VHF Radios, Transducers, Stereos, LED Lighting, Trolling Motors, Shallow Water Anchors, NMEA 2000 Introduction, Digital Switching, and more.
 
Offshore/Saltwater MEI Topics:
General Knowledge, Ohm’s Law, EMI, DC Wiring, Grounds, Batteries & Chargers, Load Calculations, Displays & Black Boxes, VHF Radios, Transducers, Stereos, Coaxial Cables, Antennas, AIS (Class B), Radar, Heading Sensors, NMEA 0183, and more.
