NMEA 2000 Installer Trainings offered at IBEX

NMEA

Aug 20, 2024

Two days of installer certifications recognized by major electronics manufacturers.

The National Marine Electronics Association (NMEA) will play a major role again this year by providing technical training at IBEX in Tampa Florida, September 30. NMEA’s popular NMEA 2000 basic and advanced installer certification classes will be offered. Students will achieve certified installer certificates upon passing a certification exam at the end of each class. All classes will take place at the IBEX show in the Tampa Convention Center.

“NMEA has organized and presented technical sessions and installer training courses at IBEX for several years, always drawing strong attendance and participation.” said Mark Reedenauer, NMEA President & Executive Director. “This year, we are excited to offer our NMEA 2000 training and certification lineup to manufacturers, installers, technicians, and boat builders.” Below is the full schedule of events.

Basic NMEA 2000® Network Installer (BN2K)
Monday September 30, 8am-5pm (Day before IBEX begins)

This is an introductory course on installing NMEA 2000® Networks. The course covers the following topics: Cables, Connectors, Specifications Physical Planning & Documentation, Power Sources & Distribution, Voltage Drop Calculations, Data Messages (Parameter Group Numbers), Connecting to Other Data Sources, Network Setup, and Troubleshooting.  Students will be guided through building a basic NMEA 2000 network at the conclusion of the training course.

Advanced NMEA 2000 Network Installer (AN2K)
Thursday October 3, 8am-5pm (Last day of IBEX show)

The NMEA 2000® advanced course focuses on installations, setup, and diagnostic troubleshooting of moderately complex NMEA 2000® networks. The class consists of a PowerPoint presentation followed by “hands on” and the included class lunch. Students split into small groups at classroom workstations equipped with NMEA 2000® networks. The purpose of the hands-on portion is to provide students with the opportunity to demonstrate proficiency in the ability to build, configure, backup network files and evaluate network conditions using the diagnostic tools shown in the class.  The training class features NMEA2000®-certified products from major manufacturers such as Furuno, Garmin, Simrad, Raymarine, Maretron, Actisense and Airmar, including multi-function displays(MFDs), Instruments and sensors of the same function which require instancing. Most importantly, this allows students to get familiar with the diagnostic tools used in the training and offered to students at special reduced pricing from the NMEA.

Please note there is absolutely no outside test equipment allowed in the class by students. Pre-requisite: Student must have taken the basic NMEA 2000 Installer Training class.

The 2024 Marine Electronics Conference & Expo was a great event!

NMEA

The 2024 Marine Electronics Conference & Expo, held by the National Marine Electronics Association, (NMEA) took place September 16 to the 20th in Providence, Rhode Island. Boating Industry Canada was there for the first time and we were very impressed with what we found.

The association is very well supported and virtually any significant marine electronics company that you could name, was represented there on the Exhibitor list at the Expo as well as all being NMEA members and very supportive of the organization.
