Boating Industry Canada Employer of Choice Program

BIC Employer of Choice

Jan 30, 2024

Jeff Doran of the Employer of Choice program holds the Award Plaque with the CMP Group staff at the Toronto International Boat Show Industry Breakfast event on January 23, 2024.

The Boating Industry Canada Employer of Choice Program has been running now for almost a decade and it’s been very affordable and useful for many medium and larger sized marine businesses. The Boating Industry Canada Employer of Choice Program is a human resources program. The steps you need to take to retain employees and to motivate them to do their best, is a far different skill set from running a solid marine business.

For years now, Boating Industry Canada has supported the Employer of Choice Awards. This is a program that has helped many businesses to make real, sustainable improvements in their organization.

Participating companies receive reports that include overall score, category scores and top five/bottom five scoring statements. Participating companies also receive a list of employee comments, benchmark data and an Action Plan template for developing a plan for continuous improvement. These reports will help you build a better culture, improve employee engagement and determine how you stack up against the best in your sector.

There are many participating companies in the Boating Industry Canada Employer of Choice award program, but some integrate the program into their operations to build employee engagement, attract top employees, retain staff and develop a magnetic corporate culture.

At the Toronto International Boat Show Industry Breakfast event on January 23, 2024, we recognized the marine businesses who have taken the time, and made the commitment to their people, to achieve Award level results this past year. Although there are many Ontario-based marine businesses in the program, for various reasons, several who have been annual winners did not make that level this year. We expect them back for the 2024 season and here are the five 2024 Award Winners:

In the category of Manufacturers and Marine Businesses, congratulations to:

            • CMP Group Ltd.

            • Dometic Vancouver

In the Marina / Dealer category we congratulate:

            • Gibbons Motor Toys

            • M&P Mercury

            • Freedom Marine Inc.

All Award-level companies will be recognized in upcoming issues of Boating Industry Canada News Week Digest but for the Industry Breakfast session at TIBS, only CMP Group Ltd., was present to be recognized.
