Building an Employer of Choice Culture

BICEOC

Oct 15, 2024

“We have always believed in giving our employees a voice, and entering the Employer of Choice award program is an extension of that. It’s great to receive this recognition, but we are not going to rest on our laurels. We will continue to find new and innovative ways to make Dometic a rewarding place to work and build a career,” says Brian Dudra, Vice President and General Manager of Dometic’s Vancouver facility.

The recreational marine industry in Canada is vibrant, vast and innovative. It is a tremendous economic driver in the communities where boating is enjoyed. But like any other sector, to grow and stay competitive, it needs a steady supply of dedicated, hard-working employees. This has been a major challenge.

In order for marine businesses to attract and retain great staff, they need to demonstrate that they provide a superior work experience. This includes offering things like – training and development, career opportunities, competitive pay, safe and healthy work environment, strong/supportive/caring leadership, work/life harmony and family friendly culture.

One of the best ways to build and demonstrate a superior workplace culture is to be recognized as an Employer of Choice.

The Boating Industry Canada Employer of Choice (BICEOC) Award is the industry’s only “Made-in-Canada” recognition and development program for the recreational marine industry, coast to coast.

It’s a simple three step process…

Step 1: Registration – Go to www.biceoc.com  and fill out the registration form

Step 2: Organizational Profile – This is where you describe your leadership attributes and HR benefits. (“Leadership Questionnaire and HR checklist”).  The document can be provided in WORD or downloaded from the website.

Step 3: Employee Commitment Survey – 10 minute- on-line survey

How does the scoring work?

A weighted scoring system is used to determine the winners. All participating organizations must achieve a minimum of 75% on the assessment to claim the award. The Leadership Review accounts for 30%, the HR Inventory is 20% and the Employee Commitment Survey represents 50%. All stages of the assessment process must be fully completed and submitted on or before the indicated deadlines.

Survey Data and Reporting

One of the most important aspects of the program is the survey data collection and analysis. We compile all the data from your employee commitment survey and produce a detailed summary report that gives you the insights you need to make real, sustainable improvements in your organization.

Reports include overall score, category scores, top five/bottom five scoring statements, all statement scores in graphical layout and demographics. You’ll also receive a list of employee comments, benchmark data and an Action Plan template for developing a plan for continuous improvement.  These reports will help you build a better culture, improve employee engagement and determine how you stack up against the best in your sector.

In Summary

Building a great culture starts with a plan. You also need data. The Boating Industry Employer of Choice award program is designed to provide both. It is a recognition and development program designed to build employee engagement, attract top employees, retain staff and develop a magnetic corporate culture.
