Renowned yachting photographer Sharon Green will be inducted into the Canadian Sailing Hall of Fame in October, recognizing decades of contribution to the sport through her iconic imagery and storytelling. One of the world’s preeminent photographers of competitive sailing, Sharon has captured and documented the dizzying developments in the sport during a pivotal period by placing herself fearlessly in the midst of the action, aboard a speeding photo boat, whirling helicopter, ashore or onboard competing yachts. Her work has shaped the visual legacy of sailing worldwide, capturing everything from grand prix racing to classic yachts with a distinctive perspective more akin to art than photography.

Sharon will be honored in addition to 11 other inductees at ceremonies October 3 and 4, 2026 in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Most notably, Sharon will join a roster of esteemed honorees which include her late father, Don Green: earning them the distinction of the only father-daughter recipients in the Canadian Sailing Hall of Fame.

Don Green’s adventures — sailing around the world with Irving and Exy Johnson on the 96-foot Brigantine Yankee, and ongoing campaigns with Evergreen and Evergreen II — made an indelible mark on Canadian sailing, and also on Sharon. Spurred by her days as a junior sailor on the family C&C 35 Motivation, to her post as Evergreen’s team photographer at the age of just 17, Sharon dove into an extraordinary career which has inspired and impacted thousands around the globe for decades. She launched the successful Ultimate Sailing Calendar in 1983 and has continued to photograph America’s Cup, Transpac, superyacht and other world-class events for publication in all of the leading media outlets and private collections.

Announcing the 2026 Honorees Robert Mazza, Chair of the Canadian Sailing Hall of Fame Management Committee said, “The Class of 2026 is a diverse group of individuals who span well over 100 years of sailing in Canada in a number of categories: sailors, designers, builders and artists. Each has contributed greatly to our sport. With the 2026 inductions taking place in Halifax, it is logical that this year’s inductees also have an East Coast emphasis.”

The Canadian Sailing Hall of Fame is a collaboration between the Canadian Sailing Hall of Fame, the Marine Museum of the Great Lakes at Kingston, and Sail Canada, recognizing inductees in three categories of Sailor, Technical, or Contributor. Sail Canada, established in 1931 as the national governing body for the sport of sailing, is recognized for its world-class athletes, lifelong participants and inclusive culture. The organization and members are committed to excellence by developing and training its leaders, athletes, sailors, instructors, coaches and officials who promote sailing in all its forms, for Canadians of ages and abilities.

Other inductees to the Canadian Sailing Hall of Fame this year include: Paralympic athletes Paul Tingley, Logan Campbell and Scott Lutes; Olympian Larry Lemieux, and Olympian and Finn Gold Cup World Champion Hank Lammens. In addition, Casey Baldwin, Mark Ellis, Christopher Pratt, William Roue, Joshua Slocum and Angus Walters will be inducted posthumously.
