For many paddlers, getting into and out of a kayak means risking becoming the subject of a viral video. With the new Heavy Duty Kayak Launch® from Golden Manufacturing, onlookers will quickly put away their cell phones. Ideal for human-powered vessels such as kayaks, paddleboards and canoes, the Heavy Duty Kayak Launch accommodates up to 350 lbs. The unit will debut at ICAST 2022, July 19–22, Orlando, Florida, Booth 3608.
The Golden Heavy Duty Kayak Launch (U.S. Patent No. 9,278,735) was designed with one goal in mind: launching and retrieving watercraft smoothly and safely. The user simply places the vessel on the launch's bunks and lowers it into the water using the winch. Then, it's simply a matter of descending the ladder to the titan platform step. A convenient paddle holder is placed on the outside rail. The vessel is completely stable on the kayak launch as the paddler(s) get situated and the handrails on both sides of the vessel provide additional balance and support when boarding. Then, it's slid off the Heavy Duty Kayak Launch into the water. Upon return, the 56" wide clear entry provides easy access.
To accommodate site-specific requirements and local tidal fluctuations, the Golden Heavy Duty Kayak Launch is offered in 5-Step and 7-Step configurations. They offer 3' and 5' of vertical travel, respectively.
Manufactured for use in any water salinity, the Golden Heavy Duty Kayak Launch is made with fully welded 6061-T6 marine-grade aluminum and 300-series stainless steel cable, brake winch and hardware. Extruded aluminum bunks are a full 6' L and adjust for varying boat widths. The universal mounting footprint allows it to be installed on docks, seawalls, and floating docks. It's built so strongly that it's commonly used in public launch site locations.
MSRP for the Golden 5 Step Heavy Duty Kayak Launch is $2,737; the 7 Step model is $2,979. Standard and Extra Wide versions are available with capacities up to 250 lbs.

The 10th edition of the Monaco Energy Boat Challenge (MEBC) has wrapped up at the Yacht Club de Monaco (YCM) and it gives a compelling look at the future of electric boating.
The MEBC was started in 2014 as a competition between university teams who built and raced boats powered only by solar power and batteries. To encourage more participation from institutions that may not have naval architecture or boat construction expertise, the YCM introduced the Energy Class competition. The club supplies the student teams with the same one-design catamaran hull, and each team adds their own cockpit and propulsion system that can be powered by any renewable alternative energy sources, not just solar.
