The National Marine Representatives Association (NMRA) presented it's 2017 Mel Barr Award to Ron Schmitt, president and CEO at G.G. Schmitt & Sons. The award recognizes an individual who has contributed to the improvement of the industry and is named in the memory of marine rep Mel Barr, one of the founders of NMRA and its first president. Tim Hennagir, editor of Boating Industry magazine, and NMRA incoming president Neal Trombley made the presentation at the 2017 IBEX Industry Awards Breakfast in Tampa, Florida.
Schmitt, son of company founder G.G. Schmitt, started at the Lancaster, Pennsylvania-based family owned and run business after graduating from the University of Baltimore in the 1970s. G.G. Schmitt & Sons designs and manufactures quality marine hardware.
From early on, Schmitt's inventiveness shined. He holds numerous patents for products that continue to impact the industry. He also successfully led his company through the turbulent economic downturn that affected many of his colleagues.
"His successful career is one dedicated to leadership, hard work and integrity," said Hennagir during the presentation. "It's one that exemplifies the values of the NMRA and its members."

The 10th edition of the Monaco Energy Boat Challenge (MEBC) has wrapped up at the Yacht Club de Monaco (YCM) and it gives a compelling look at the future of electric boating.
The MEBC was started in 2014 as a competition between university teams who built and raced boats powered only by solar power and batteries. To encourage more participation from institutions that may not have naval architecture or boat construction expertise, the YCM introduced the Energy Class competition. The club supplies the student teams with the same one-design catamaran hull, and each team adds their own cockpit and propulsion system that can be powered by any renewable alternative energy sources, not just solar.

Questus Marine patented, Self-Leveling Radar Mounts automatically keep radar antennas level with the horizon, eliminating target loss.
Regardless of the angle of heel, with a Questus mount, a radar antenna will pick up targets to either side of a vessel, rather than aiming to the sky and water (for planes and fish). The Questus Marine Self-Leveling Radar Mount can be installed in three basic configurations: backstay mount, mast mount or Stern Pole mount.
