Changing the watch at UK Sailmakers International

Adam Loory

Apr 3, 2023

After 34 years at UK Sailmakers, General Manager Adam Loory is about to retire to do, what else, sail the South Pacific with his wife Jenni. Adam has been one of the operational leaders of UK for decades helping customers and UK staffers manage the day-to-day business of sailmaking.

At the same time Adam has been extremely generous with his time helping lead the Storm Trysail Club’s Intercollegiate Offshore Regatta, teach at the STC’s Hands-on Safety-at-Sea seminars, spearheading the Can One Evening Race Association on western Long Island sound, and providing the sailing community hours of how-to videos and social media postings ranging from sail trim and boat handling to safety-at-sea and rig set-up, all the while campaigning his own boats.

Adam LooryAdam, Jenni and their cat Max will be leaving right after Block Island Race Week on their custom Eric Goetz- built 40-footer Soulmates for a shakedown to Nova Scotia. That will be followed by a jaunt through the Panama Canal (post hurricane season) over to French Polynesia.

While Adam leaves with our thanks and admiration, his replacement, Vancouver based sailmaker Heather Mahady is in the process of relieving Adam from his watch. “We are all going to miss Adam and his many contributions,” noted UK President John Bennett, “but we’re excited about Heather’s transition from working at our Pacific Northwest loft to becoming part of our management team. Her combination of a lifetime of sailing with solid business capabilities assures us that UK Sailmakers will continue to sail with confidence.”

The association is very well supported and virtually any significant marine electronics company that you could name, was represented there on the Exhibitor list at the Expo as well as all being NMEA members and very supportive of the organization.
