The industry mourns the passing of Alfred “Alf” Mortimer

April 4, 2023

It is with heavy hearts that the family sadly announce the passing of Alfred “Alf” Mortimer (the second), on March 29, 2023. He was in his 100th year. Beloved, devoted husband to the late Lois Helen Jean Mortimer (nee Sutherland).  He is survived by daughter Pamela Blair, grandson Jonathan Blair (Nada) & great grandson J.J. The family is saddened by Alf’s sudden death, but take comfort that he was surrounded by his loved ones when he passed. Special acknowledgement and gratitude from the family go to Bella and Cocoy. Their exceptional caregiving and compassion bestowed to Alf over the past years exceeded all expectation.

Alf’s family roots run deep in Muskoka. His family was one of Muskoka’s early settlers. His parents Carrie and Eddie Mortimer had four children: Alf, Fred, Florence & Don. Alf left his indelible mark when in 1952 he purchased land between the two lakes, Rosseau and Joseph. There he established Port Sandfield Marina, Port Sandfield, Ontario. The family owned & operated business was initially run by Alf and Lois. Upon their retirement it passed to John Sr., Pam & Jonathan Blair. Currently grandson  Jonathan  & Nada Blair are at the helm and next, with great grandson JJ joining the team, this is now a four generation Muskoka family legacy. Alf had many passions and interests; family, golf, business, marine mechanics, a collector of old cars, old boats. A gifted self-taught mechanic, it is said that he could diagnose an engine just by listening to it purr.

Port Sanfield Marina, friends and family will greatly miss Alf Mortimer. If you have any stories or photos you’d like to share, please visit Alf’s memory wall at Reynolds Funeral home in Bracebridge. www.reynoldsfuneral.com

Donations can be made to ANDY’s House Hospice Muskoka in Port Carling. www.hospicemuskoka.com/andyshouse

A celebration of life to be announced at a later date.
