Ewincher Launches New Electric Furling Boom Motor Range to Make High-Performance Boom Furling More Accessible

June 23, 2026

Ewincher announces the commercial launch of a new range of electric motors designed for furling boom systems, combining high performance, advanced sail-handling features and a more accessible positioning for the market.

Furling boom systems are gaining momentum among sailing yacht owners looking for easier mainsail handling without compromising sailing performance. Unlike in-mast furling, boom furling allows the use of a fully battened mainsail, helping preserve sail shape, efficiency and the aesthetics of the rig.

With this new range, Ewincher aims to support the development of electric furling boom technology by offering furling boom manufacturers a powerful, compact and competitive motor solution for integration into their own systems.

The range includes two models: the Model 100, designed for booms up to 7 m depending on the required performance, and the Model 110, designed for booms up to 9 m. Both models are equipped with an 800 W brushless motor and offer variable furling speed from 8 to 40 rpm — a unique feature on the market — allowing the user to adapt the furling speed intuitively during operation.

This new range integrates several safety and control features. A proportional braking system helps keep the luff tensioned while hoisting and can also slow the mainsail during unfurling in gusty conditions. A tension limiter protects the sail during furling by automatically stopping the motor if excessive tension is detected. Finally, a ratchet clutch locks the mandrel when at rest, takes up the halyard load after reefing and automatically unlocks during furling.

The motor is controlled by a compact control box, installed inside the boat up to 5 m from the motor. This control box has its own battery and can be powered by a 12, 24 or 48 V supply, with only 110 W of required input power.

Like all motors in the Ewincher range, this new motor is based on brushless technology, which significantly reduces energy consumption compared with traditional DC motors.

The main motor command unit is installed in the most appropriate position on the boat and connected to the control box via a network cable.

A secondary command unit can also be installed near the helm, allowing control of both the furling boom motor and the SailForceTM electric winch motors developed by Ewincher.

“Electric furling boom systems offer a very attractive solution for sailors, but their cost has limited broader adoption,” said Bruno Rabu, CEO and founder of Ewincher. “With this new range, our ambition is to help make the technology more accessible, while bringing strong performance and advanced control features to furling boom manufacturers.”

The new Ewincher electric furling boom motor range is now available for integration by furling boom manufacturers. Ewincher is currently working with selected partners on validation and adaptation of the system to different boom configurations.
