Isolation Transformers Make Boating Safer

Hubbell Marine Isolation Transformers

June 24, 2025

Many boat owners don’t realize how dangerous dockside power can be while in the marina. Improper or deteriorated wiring can cause galvanic corrosion, leading stray currents to enter the water where it can be deadly to swimmers. Onboard, surges and reversed polarity may damage delicate electronics. Hubbell Marine’s line of UL-listed Isolation Transformers helps protect people and vessels.

Developed specifically for marine applications and suitable for 50 and 100-amp systems, the 15kVA and 25kVA devices ensure onboard power is safe and optimally conditioned. Operating at 60Hz, boosted Hubbell Isolation Transformers feature 12.5% taps to correct high and low voltage fluctuation, and exceed ABYC’s 4,000V hipot test requirements. They feature two full current-carrying shields per UL standards. 50/60Hz internationally rated models are also available.

Hubbell’s optional Auto-Boost instantly evaluates the electrical system upon power-up. It can remain in a static mode after initial start-up or dynamic mode, checking and adjusting the voltage every hour. It can also automatically compensate low voltage by boosting the output 12.5%. This can be programmed to boost from a minimum level of 190 volts up to 220 volts.

Offered in white powder-coated steel or 316 stainless steel enclosures, Hubbell’s patent-pending transformers are vibration-resistant, lighter and more compact than competitors’ models. The 15kVA Isolation Transformer weighs 170 lbs. and is 16.94″ H x 14.12″ W x 11.59″ D. The 25kVA unit is 250 lbs. and 18.44″ H x 16.13″ W x 13.34″ D. MSRPs for Hubbell Marine Isolation Transformers start at $2,190. USD.
