Water heater offers dynamic heat source choices

Raritan 1700 Series Marine Water Heaters

Feb 27, 2024

After a long day on the water, having ample supplies of hot water for multiple showers and meal preparation is a welcome luxury. The 1700 Series Marine Water Heater from Raritan Engineering was created specifically for marine use. With a proven long-life design, it’s available with a 115V AC or 240V AC heating element, and the option to include an innovative heat exchanger that uses the vessel’s hot engine coolant.

The Raritan 1700 Series is available in convenient 6-, 12- and 20-gallon sizes and designed to operate downstream of an onboard water system pump. Like a residential water heater, each is glass lined for durability and corrosion-free, clean-tasting water. High-density, eco-friendly CFM-free foam insulation with a high R-value is used for maximum heat retention. The tanks have an attractive easy-to-clean polymer jacket.

Highly efficient, the 1700 Series Marine Water Heater has a dockside recovery rate of 13 gph on 115V and 18 gph when running on 240V. The integrated adjustable thermostat with ignition protection can be set as high as 160° F to extend the tank’s capacity when mixing with cold water. A check valve is required to prevent hot water migrating back to the pump. The replaceable anode protects the unit and neutralizes acids in the water. The available heat exchanger is a 7′ coil of hose that runs inside the tank and is connected to the engine cooling system.

Simple to install, all plumbing connections are on one side of the 1700 Series Marine Water Heater. This makes it easy to retrofit without disrupting other pressure systems. Fittings for hot and cold potable water are all 3/4″ male NPT; the heat exchanger’s are 3/4″ female NPT.

Raritan 1700 Series Marine Water Heaters are exceptionally compact. The 6-gallon model is 14.5″ dia. x 16.25″ H and weighs 36 lbs.; the 12 gal., 18.75″ dia. x 16.25″ H at 62 lbs.; and the 20 gal., 18.75″ dia. x 24.25″ H at 81 lbs. Each is assembled by hand, individually tested and backed by Raritan’s two-year limited warranty and legendary technical support team. Prices range from $1,410 USD to $1,975 USD.
