Wescom group is delighted to announce that the firstĀ of its new series of distress beacons is now available worldwide*Ā through itsĀ distributors and retailers.Ā

The sMRT ALERT AIS DSC Man Overboard deviceĀ offers enhanced localised recovery with simplified fitting, fasterĀ activationĀ and wearer acknowledgments.Ā Ā It is the firstĀ in a series of new beacons produced at Wescom Groupās newly-openedĀ manufacturing facility in Hull, UK. Previewed at METSTRADE in November, the sMRTĀ ALERTās user-focusedĀ safety features were recognised with a DAME Awards specialĀ mention accolade.

The sMRT ALERTās innovative features include two-wayĀ signalling, real-time location tracking via AIS (AutomaticĀ IdentificationĀ System) and uses DSC (Digital Selective Calling) to alert nearby vessels to theĀ call for help.

The sMRT ALERT is also oneĀ of the first products on the market designed to meet the new Class M regulationĀ ECCĀ Decision (22)02, which will restrict AIS only MOB devices use of core AISĀ channels in certain countries from JanuaryĀ 2025. Only class M devices such asĀ the ALERT ā those with GNSS and internal DSC receiver – will be compliant withĀ theĀ new regulations.

The sMRT ALERT alsoĀ includes a beacon management app to connect the beacon to a smart phone, enablingĀ users toĀ check on activation status and the powerĀ reservesĀ in the five-year battery.
