Flagship Niagara League HowardThe Flagship Niagara League, which operates the historic 1893-fishing schooner Lettie G. Howard as a programmatic collaboration with South Street Seaport Museum invites proposals for live-aboard sail training programs to take place fall of 2018.

Lettie G. Howard can accommodate up to 14 students. Proposals for programs of any duration up to twelve weeks, between October and December of 2018, taking place on the Atlantic coast of the United States and Canada, will be considered on a rolling basis, with final decisions expected by August 1, 2018.

Both traditional and informal educators are invited to apply. Participants in voyaging programs should be at least 14 years of age. Participants in day programs should be at least 10 years of age. Programs which emphasize the skills of traditional seamanship and good stewardship of the oceans will be preferred.

For 30 years, the Flagship Niagara League (FNL) has been offering innovative educational programs under sail and is internationally recognized as a world leader in sail training.

Programming that has been developed and implemented on FNL operated vessels include:
• A five-day summer camp onboard Lettie G. Howard for ages 10-14
• Two-week college-level Environmental Science Field Schools onboard the U.S. Brig Niagara accredited through a consortium of universities in Pennsylvania, New York and Ohio, which has produced cutting edge research on micro plastics, published in a peer-reviewed journal.
• Two-week programs for cadets at Maritime High Schools focusing on fundamentals of seamanship for aspiring professionals.
• Day programs focusing on team-building, S.T.E.M. topics, or the visual arts.
