Maretron Announces the Capability to Configure Airmar Transducers over NMEA 2000® Network

Maretron and Airmar announced a joint cooperation to implement an, up until now, underutilized advanced feature of an NMEA 2000® network standard. This multi-manufacturer configuration feature was planned by NMEA to provide for mixed manufacturer’s products to be configured by one another’s devices over a network.

Airmar and Maretron have been cooperating for some time as Airmar has been supplying Maretron® with a Depth/Speed/Temperature triducer since 2004. Now, after a serious cooperative engineering effort, the two companies have announced a breakthrough in cooperation between any two manufacturers whose products actually could compete with another in the marketplace, but yet will cooperate technologically.

Beginning immediately, an NMEA 2000® network having a mix of Airmar transducers and Maretron displays or gateways will have an ability to allow configuration of certain models of Airmar transducers. If the network has Maretron’s DSM250 Color Display or Maretron’s USB100 Gateway and then any of various models of Airmar products (actual models found at this link

http://www.maretron.com/support/knowledgebase/knowledgemanager/questions/505)can be calibrated or configured over the vessel’s NMEA 2000® network. With Maretron® DSM250 Display product having firmware version 1.4.9 or greater, you may configure or calibrate speed through water readings, reset the trip log, change the offset value applied to temperature readings and change the depth transducer offset on Maretron or supported Airmar transducers whose firmware supports these calibrations.

“This was always one of the significant intents of the NMEA 2000® universal open industry standard to achieve,” says Larry Anderson Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Maretron and past Chairman of the NMEA Standards Committee. “This feature allows an end user to have the best of class product from various manufacturers and at the same time configure devices from another manufacturer’s screen.”

Jennifer Matsis, Marketing Manager of Airmar, said “Airmar has been involved in the development of the NMEA 2000® network from its inception and are pleased to be part of moving this important configuration feature of mixed manufacturers forward, as I see it benefitting the entire industry as well as end users.”
