Sun Shines on BC Yacht Brokers’ Victoria Floating Show

The weather gods smiled on this year’s BC Yacht Brokers Association Victoria Harbour Boat Show last weekend, offering up sunny, dry weather for the show’s three key days. The great conditions helped push attendance for the Thursday-Sunday event to near 5,000.

Sixty-two exhibitors filled the docks in the Inner Harbour and at nearby Ship Point with new and brokerage boats, including 68 powerboats, 25 sailboats and 75 assorted smaller craft. Tents at Ship Point also held product, services and trade exhibits.

A big part of this show’s attraction is its setting in downtown Victoria, under the imposing facades of the Empress Hotel and the BC Legislature and close to restaurants and other amenities.

After a downpour on the show’s opening afternoon cleared, the good weather helped buoy the upbeat mood among exhibitors that carried on from this winter’s Vancouver Boat Show and follow-up business. Several exhibitors reported quoting on new boats and drawing strong interest in brokerage craft.

The Victoria show is one of two annual BCYBA events on the coast; the association also stages a late September show at North Vancouver’s Mosquito Creek Marina.

The association is very well supported and virtually any significant marine electronics company that you could name, was represented there on the Exhibitor list at the Expo as well as all being NMEA members and very supportive of the organization.
