ABYC HOSTS REGIONAL SEMINARS

Battery Management

The American Boat & Yacht Council (ABYC) announces a new regional seminar series to be hosted in various locations around the country. Attendees can earn continuing education units (CEUs) while networking with industry experts. In April, three sessions are scheduled around the Pacific Northwest and one session will be held in Port Jefferson, New York.

“One of the most rewarding parts of our job is spending time with our members all across the country,” said ABYC President John Adey. “Presentations like these give us that opportunity while bringing ABYC’s safety message through demonstrations and give and take discussions.”

The events in the Pacific Northwest are sponsored by Blue Sea Systems. Attendees will learn best practices on circuit protection and battery management as well as see the latest electrical products. A $50 registration fee gives attendees a $50 product voucher from the event host, dinner and drinks, giveaways from Blue Sea Systems®, Ancor® and Marinco®, and the education value for two CEUs.

“It is rare when organizations in different segments of the marine industry can get together and offer an event that will make boating safer through education,” said David Johnson, Vice President of the Power Products, LLC Marine and Mobile Division. “ABYC provides a strong and active organization to establish, train and update the guidelines for proper wiring of pleasure craft. Blue Sea Systems, now a part of six brands including Ancor, BEP, Marinco, Mastervolt and Pro Mariner, are committed to designing electrical products that help the industry comply to ABYC Standards.”

The Pacific Northwest dates are as follows:

•         April 12, 4-8 p.m. – Hosted by Fisheries Supply, Seattle, Washington

•         April 13, 4-8 p.m. – Hosted by Port Supply, Anacortes, Washington

•         April 14, 4-8 p.m. – Hosted by Western Marine Company, Vancouver, BC

ABYC will be hosting an extended version of the seminar series in Port Jefferson, New York April 20 from 10 a.m.-3:30 p.m. This event includes a session called “When the Customer Sues” with Christina Paul from K&L Gates to help attendees with free legal advice. Additional key topics: Common Survey and Repair Mistakes; New Products and Applications by Blue Sea and Mastervolt; Marketing your Marine Business and Maximizing Your ABYC Membership.

The Port Jefferson seminar will gain attendees 5 CEUs from ABYC and the Society of Accredited Marine Surveyors (SAMS). The National Association of Marine Surveyors (NAMS) will also recognize credits; attendees will need to consult with their NAMS representative for details.

For those that register by April 15, the meeting cost is $69 for ABYC members and $89.00 for nonmembers.

The association is very well supported and virtually any significant marine electronics company that you could name, was represented there on the Exhibitor list at the Expo as well as all being NMEA members and very supportive of the organization.
