INDEPENDENT CONTRACTOR REQUEST FOR PROPOSAL ADVANCED MARINE ELECTRONICS (AMEI) INSTALLER TRAINING COURSE RE-DEVELOPMENT

Summary:
The NMEA is seeking to contract a technical expert to update the current Advanced MEI (AMEI) training course. Marine electronics have advanced well beyond the installation topics outlined in 2006, when the course was originally created. The reason NMEA is seeking a contractor instead of the traditional committee work is quicker time to market so installers can get trained on these concepts by the middle of 2017.
General Requirements & Deliverables:
• Extensive knowledge of the existing Advanced Installer Training Course.
• Create a full day Advanced MEI installer training and troubleshooting course.
• This will need to be a PowerPoint presentation of roughly 140 + – slides.
• Create 80 exam questions based on the newly updated material in the revised PowerPoint presentation
• Create a word document based on the material so it can be reviewed by the NMEA Installation Committee for inclusion in the next release of the 0400 Installation Standard.
• Mentioning manufacturers and their equipment is allowed throughout the course.
• Project must be completed IN FULL by March 31 2017

Perspective contractor must have extensive installation knowledge around the following mandatory included topics:
• Marine Computer Installations
• Data & Ethernet
• Autopilots
• Radar
• Electromagnetic Interference (EMI)
• Single Side band
• Non-Magnetic Heading Sensors
• Antenna Placement
• Satellite Services
• AIS- Class A
Industry Knowledge Requirement
• Extensive experience installing, configuring and troubleshooting Marine Electronics
• Electronic technical knowledge related to all aspects of installing marine electronics
• Knowledge of NMEA 2000 and NMEA 0183 Standards is preferred
• NMEA CMET (Certified Marine Electronics Technician) is preferred
Compensation & Submission:
• Negotiable. $1,000 paid at start of project and balance paid once completed project is submitted to NMEA and approved by the NMEA Education Committee.
