On Tuesday, January 24th at the Allstream Centre adjacent to the Enercare Centre where the Toronto International Boat Show was being held, 240 industry members turned out for the 2017 NMMA Canada Recreational Boating Industry Breakfast. It was the biggest turnout ever, for the event.

Andy Adams of Boating Industry Canada was the host and one of the sponsors. NMMA Canada both sponsored and organized the event and Wells Fargo Securities was the main sponsor bringing one of their top people as the keynote speaker for the event.

Tim Quinlan, vice president and economist with Wells Fargo Securities delivered a rapid-fire series of important slides and economic information and also fielded questions as he went. It was a stimulating and interesting session, especially given the recent inauguration of President Trump and the uncertainty around his plans and future policies.

Based in Charlotte, N.C., Tim Quinlan provides Wells Fargo with analysis on the macro U.S. economy and major foreign economies. Domestically, he covers industrial production, manufacturing, and business investment spending. His international efforts concentrate on Japan, Canada, Korea, and Australia. Tim’s work has been published in academic economic journals and his comments on the economy regularly appear in The Wall Street Journal, the New York Times and USA Today. He is also a frequent guest on National Public Radio.

Quinlan is a member of the National Association for Business Economics and the Canadian Association for Business Economics. Tim has a B.A. from Siena College in Albany, N.Y.

Tom MacNair, NMMA Canada Chairman of the BoardTom MacNair, Chairman of the NMMA Canada Board of Directors thanked Quinlan and praised his excellent and entertaining delivery before conducting the NMMA Canada Annual General Meeting. Then, Sara Anghel, NMMA Canada Executive Director / Vice President Government Relations presented new data from the upcoming Economic Impact of Boating research report and Tracey Hart updated the audience on the latest accomplishments and opportunities from the Discover Boating program.

The final part of the morning agenda was the presentation of the NMMA Canada Hall of Fame Award, this year presented to Denys Lapointe of BRP.

It was again, a great morning of information and personal networking for the industry!

The association is very well supported and virtually any significant marine electronics company that you could name, was represented there on the Exhibitor list at the Expo as well as all being NMEA members and very supportive of the organization.
