Volvo Penta of the Americas announced today that Susan Bonivich has been promoted to director of marine leisure market sales. She succeeds Tony Kelleher who was recently promoted to vice president of customer support for Volvo Penta of the Americas.

In her new position, Bonivich will be responsible for providing leadership and direction for the overall sales of marine gasoline and diesel engines in the United States, Mexico, Canada and the Caribbean. She will supervise Volvo Penta’s team of regional sales managers and will report to Jens Bering, vice president of marine sales for Volvo Penta of the Americas.

Bonivich began her career with Volvo Penta working in the Purchasing Department in 1998. Over the past two decades, she has served in a variety of capacities, moving from purchasing to dealer development and to her most recent role in dealer and OEM sales. In this position, she has been the OEM account manager for seven boat builders and Volvo Penta’s top 60 boat dealers.

Bonivich was selected by the Marine Retailers Association of the Americas as the 2016 Darlene Briggs Woman of the Year, which is given annually to an outstanding woman for leadership, commitment and the advancement of women in the boating industry. She has held membership in the National Association of Purchasing Managers and served as president of the Hampton Roads Purchasing Managers. Over the years, she helped to raise nearly $100,000 for the American Cancer Society and served as chairperson of the Mill Point Community Association’s Social Committee.

“Susan always shows energy and passion for the business, as well as a keen customer focus and responsiveness to their concerns,” said Bering. “She is a tireless worker and a strong advocate for the needs of her customers.”
