More than $20,000 in grants and scholarships is being awarded by the Boating BC Association to support a host of initiatives that will positively impact recreational boating in British Columbia.

Through proceeds from the Vancouver International Boat Show, the Association provides financial support to not-for-profit organizations for projects related to capital infrastructure, events or initiatives deemed to increase participation in recreational boating or help to grow the recreational boating industry in BC.

Recipients of the 2019 Boating BC grants and sponsorships include:

Grants:
• Surrey Sailing Club: the purchase of a customized multi-stack trailer for sailboats, to transport junior race team boats to BC circuit regattas.
• Pender Island Jr. Sailing Association: the purchase of six pirate class dinghies to deliver Can Sail levels 1 & 2, starting in 2019
• Oliver Parks and Recreation: purchase of four more canoes for the Oliver parks and rec program. A grant last year funded the purchase of the first four canoes for the program.
• Canadian Recreational Yachting Association: creation of new, rebranded website as the organization transitions from the International Sail & Power Association.
• Marine Parks Forever Society:  contribute to the installation of 130 new stern ties in BC’s marine parks.

Sponsorships:
• Living Oceans Society: to support volunteer efforts to remove plastic and marine debris from the foreshore of 40 linear kilometers of beach on the northwest coast of Vancouver Island.
• Pacific Salmon Foundation: sponsorship of the 6th annual Galiano Fishing Derby, Saturday, May 25 at Montague Harbour
• Pacific Salmon Foundation: to support the 2019 PSF Percy Walkus Hatchery Fundraiser at Duncanby Lodge, Rivers Inlet on the Central Coast.
• BC Yacht Brokers Association: bronze sponsorship of the BC Boat Show May 2-5 in Sidney.

“Part of Boating BC’s mandate is to invest in initiatives that will help support and grow the recreational boating industry at the grassroots level, and in their own way each of the organizations that have received a grant or sponsorship are doing just that,” says Boating BC President Don Prittie. “Whether specific initiatives promote water safety, improve education or increase access to the boating lifestyle, to each of the non-profit groups and their volunteers, our Association offers its congratulations and thanks.”
