Brunswick Corporation’s New York Mills Operation has earned a Governor’s Safety Award from the Minnesota Safety Council and was recognized for excellence in workplace safety and health during the recent Governor’s Safety Awards.  This comes just a week after the facility was named in the Top 10 in the Star Tribune’s Top 150 Workplace list.

“Our team has a tremendous focus on making safety the first priority at all of our Brunswick manufacturing facilities,” said Brian Hines, Brunswick Aluminum Fish Group vice president of operations. “Our team has been the recipient of the Brunswick Chairman’s Safety Award, received the Meritorious Achievement Award for exemplary workplace safety efforts in 2018 and the New York Mills facility participates in the voluntary consultation program with Minnesota OSHA. Those are just a few of the many examples that show our commitment to safety in the workplace.”

“Each day in Minnesota, about 100 workers get injured or fall ill to the point that they can’t go back to their job the next day,” said Paul Aasen, Minnesota Safety Council president. “Congratulations to Lund and Crestliner for their hard work to make sure their employees are not part of this statistic.”

Since 1934, the annual Governor’s Safety Awards program has honored Minnesota employers with exceptional safety performance. Applicants are judged on several years of injury data as it compares with their industry’s national statistics, and on their progress in implementing a comprehensive safety program.

“We are very happy to receive so much recognition around safety improvement, but we are most proud of our team’s ability to sustain these improvements year after year,” said Hines.

The Governor’s Safety Awards recognition is part of the 85th annual Minnesota Safety & Health Conference, coordinated by the Minnesota Safety Council. The conference is the oldest and one of the largest gatherings of workplace safety and health professionals in the region. The Minnesota Safety Council, founded in 1928, is a non-governmental, not-for-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality of life in Minnesota by preventing unintentional injuries.

Good Advice that You Can Share – The Art of Anchoring

Unless a boat is secured, it will drift away. If it cannot be attached to something secure, such as a dock, piling, mooring buoy, tree, or boulder, it must be anchored. There is much more to anchoring than simply tossing the anchor over the side.

An anchoring system has two parts: the anchor itself and the rode which connects the anchor to the boat. To be effective, an anchor must have good holding power, and the rode must be strong enough to withstand the strains that are put on it.
