WHAT SHOULD WE EXPECT FOLLOWING THE FEDERAL ELECTION? – NMMA CANADA COMMENTS

Canadian Parliament

Oct 29, 2019

Sara Anghel, President of NMMA Canada recently sent out the following communication saying that it has been quite an election campaign, one that kept many guessing right until the final hours. Even before the results were tallied, NMMA was proactively planning our industry’s next advocacy steps, which will include meeting with a significant number of Members of Parliament (MPs) and Ministers over the next several weeks and months to educate them on the harm that a luxury tax on boats would have to jobs in our industry across Canada.

Different from the countermeasure tariffs we fought, the proposed luxury tax is at this point, merely a campaign promise and does not necessarily mean the Liberal Minority Government will indeed enact it. As we have for many years now, we will work cooperatively with the government and the opposition to educate them about the importance our industry has to the economy. The Prime Minister Elect advised today that he will be announcing his Cabinet on November 20th. The House of Commons will resume for a short session shortly after that day. In the coming week we will send out information pieces to assist each of you in communicating with your MP on this topic as we are confident grassroots efforts are key to us succeeding again.
