Your Business Can Benefit from Supporting Safe Boating Awareness Week, May 22-28, 2021.

May 4, 2021

Offer your local media outlets valuable public information about marinas and safe boating during COVID-19 as well as promoting boating safety this Safe Boating Awareness Week, May 22-28, 2021.

The Canadian Safe Boating Campaign and in particular the launch of Safe Boating Awareness Week (SBAW) will look different this year. Respecting current COVID-19 health and safety restrictions SBAW will not have its customary in-person launch events, but rather capitalize on social media opportunities to effectively reach out to all boaters across Canada.

The focus of CSBC’s national outreach activities will be to create a stand-alone mini-information web site, offering the media information to include in their newsfeeds along with an introduction to regional boating safety spokespeople. As marina operators, boat dealers, brokers and other professionals in the industry, you can offer your services to your local media and your business as a shooting location.

A list of official spokespeople who are representatives from boating safety organizations, enforcement, and government agencies and, of course, key members of the CSBC will be available in various locations but why not invite the media to your business?

To support this, the CSBC has pre-recorded Zoom interviews and the media can be provided with relevant boating safety information from a local point of view. The media will have the ability to either package interviews into their own news feeds or contact directly with the spokespeople who will engage with the media to conduct their own Zoom interviews.

The CSBC’s regional approach is partnership focused on supporting CSBC’s members, boating safety agencies, associations and individuals who want to conduct their own activities.  A SBAW mini site, will be available containing a variety of materials (to either copy or download) providing safety advocates with plenty of information to share with their own constituents and conduct their own media outreach.

If your organization is interested in participating with us on the new CSBC SBAW activities or our other CSBC campaigns throughout the entire summer, we would love to hear from you. Please contact John McMullen at john.mcmullen@teksavvy.com; to explore opportunities.

Good Advice that You Can Share – The Art of Anchoring

Unless a boat is secured, it will drift away. If it cannot be attached to something secure, such as a dock, piling, mooring buoy, tree, or boulder, it must be anchored. There is much more to anchoring than simply tossing the anchor over the side.

An anchoring system has two parts: the anchor itself and the rode which connects the anchor to the boat. To be effective, an anchor must have good holding power, and the rode must be strong enough to withstand the strains that are put on it.
