Impact Profile: Bryton Marine Group
Oct 31, 2023
Boating Industry Canada recently had the chance to sit down and speak with Stuart McVitty, COO of Bryton Marine Group.
Formally established in 1992, Bryton Marine Group is a family-owned Canadian company. Bryton’s early beginnings date back to 1959 when the aluminum boat building industry took off in Canada. Over the years, Bryton has grown through many acquisitions to now include six boat brands. The Group focuses on heavy gauge aluminum boats both in the recreational and commercial sectors of the industry.
Currently, Bryton is focused on moving forward with future growth while meeting the demands of the shifting market. During the pandemic, Bryton experienced an unprecedented demand and interest for marine recreational products. This has created new interests and features they’re accommodating on their products to adapt to the influx of recreational boat interest and the younger demographic shift that comes with it.
In the commercial market, they’re seeing a strong move towards decarbonization for propulsion systems. Bryton Marine Group is at the forefront of that technology. They recently delivered the first fully certified, pure hydrogen propelled passenger ferry. Bryton is looking forward at continuing to implement these technologies in their commercial sector but also move towards their recreational sector as well.
Bryton has a strong focus on environmental stewardship and working on defining what that means not only for them as a manufacturer but for their customers and their communities they serve and operate in. They have many exciting developments on the go. They’re also continuing to see demand in their larger vessels and are in the process on expanding in the eastern market.
Along with striving to create great products as the industry experiences a shift, Bryton is a noteworthy workplace and continues to focus on being the best place to work.
Bryton has been awarded the Gold Standard for Canada’s Best Managed Companies. This is a prestigious designation for any company to achieve and it’s not their first time receiving this award. It’s a testament to their entire team and every organization in their group.
Stuart McVitty comments, “Being awarded the gold standard really just cements our efforts in striving to be the best companies in the communities that we serve – the best place to work in the communities that we serve. This is really important to us as we strive to grow the organizations and enrich lives while spending time on the water. That’s what the Bryton Marine Group is all about. That’s our purpose.”
“We don’t build boats, we enrich lives.”
In this interview with Stuart, we discuss Bryton’s beginnings, company objectives, the state of the marine industry, recent trends and changes in the industry, decarbonization technology, and of course, their recognition of repeatedly receiving Gold Standard for Canada’s Best Managed Companies.
