Strong and classic steering wheel conveys quality

Schmitt Marine Steering Wheels

July 23, 2024

Handled more than any other onboard component, a boat’s steering wheel conveys a sense of both quality and confidence in its seafaring abilities. The 15-1/2″ stainless steel Primus wheel from Schmitt Marine does that and more. With its massive strength and classic appearance, it enhances everything from a workboat to a mid-sized center console to the flybridge of a large sportfish yacht.

The Primus wheel is manufactured of solid 316 stainless steel using investment casting, including the integrated ring. This produces a wheel of uncompromising strength. It exceeds ABYC P-22 and ISO 8848 standards and is why Schmitt Marine can offer a lifetime warranty against corrosion and structural integrity.

Offered in both polished and black powder-coated finishes, the Primus has three spokes with softened edges to accommodate a wide range of driving styles. The spokes are available in a solid or open-slotted style or with black UV-resistant Santoprene inserts.

Designed for all-day comfort, the wheel has a generous 1-1/8″ wide rim with ergonomic finger grips to lessen hand fatigue. The rim is offered in solid stainless steel or with the addition of Santoprene inserts for vibration reduction and a sure grip in wet weather.

All Primus versions are available with Schmitt Marine’s exceptionally free-spinning Control Knob. Using glass ball bearings and spoke-mounted 3/4″ from the rim, it provides quick maneuverability when needed, yet won’t interfere with standard operation.

The Primus wheel is ideal for both boatbuilders and refit DIYers alike. Using an industry-standard 3/4″ tapered hub, the matching stainless steel center nut works with all marine steering systems. Schmitt Marine offers custom powder coating and Santoprene colors for OEM quantity orders.
