MERCURY MARINE HONOURED FOR ENERGY CONSUMPTION AND EFFICIENCY PRACTICES

Mercury Marine

Mercury Marine,  has been honored for its commitment to energy efficiency and management. Though incentives offered by the Utilities and Focus on Energy program, Mercury Marine has qualified for incentives for the projects related to their Product Development and Engineering facility.

The award presentation was made during a Wisconsin Association of Energy Engineers (WAEE) event and plant tour at Mercury. Kathy Liefer from Alliant Energy presented the award to Mercury and credits the company’s upper management team for managing energy use.

“Mercury Marine has long been a good steward of energy and natural resources and is recognized as a leader in energy efficiency,” Liefer said. “Their belief is that a commitment to energy management is just plain smart for business, as well, that it’s important to make a positive impact on the environment.”

In 2010 Mercury Marine launched an aggressive sustainability plan which included an energy conservation goal of reducing their energy consumption by 30% by 2015 compared to 2005. Mercury’s new facilities include heat recovery from its diesel exhaust treatment system, integrated process heating systems with engine heat recovery, integrated process cooling systems with ice storage, and more.

Liefer spoke about Mercury’s recent accomplishments at the newly expanded state-of-the-art Product Development and Engineering testing center. Projects at PD&E resulted in a total demand savings of 331 kW’s, energy savings of 1.4 million kWh’s, gas savings of 191,244 therms and annual cost savings of $174,164.

“The WAEE does an outstanding job of providing education and promoting responsible environmental action in Wisconsin,” said Mercury Marine President of Global Sales and Marketing Kevin Grodzki.
“We were proud to show them what Mercury has been doing to enhance its sustainable efforts and learn about the latest in environmental education.”

In 2014, Mercury Marine won the Wisconsin Business Friend of the Environment award as well as the Most Eco-Friendly Marine Business award at the 2014 China Boat Show. In addition, Boating Industry named Mercury’s Enertia ECO Propeller as a Top Product for 2014.
