ONTARIO SAILING LAUNCHES CONSUMER OUTREACH PROGRAM
Sailing organisation aims to grow boating participation in Canada’s most populous province.
Ontario Sailing, a not-for-profit, volunteer organisation committed to promoting sailing in Canada’s most populous province, has launched a new consumer outreach plan that the organisation hopes will entice more people to go boating.
The new Get Into Sailing program will be officially launched at the Toronto International Boat Show, to be held from January 10-19 at the Direct Energy Centre in downtown Toronto. Ontario Sailing will also promote the new program at the Toronto Outdoor Adventure Show, held from February 21-23 at the International Centre near the Toronto airport.
Based on the popular “Go Sailing and Boating” day the organisation hosts each June, the new Get Into Sailing program will operate as a province-wide open house, offering free introductory lessons in windsurfing, dinghy, keelboat and powerboat along with club open houses and tours.
“The general public will be able to see how open our clubs are to having more people take up safe and family friendly sailing and power boating in their community,” said Ontario Sailing executive director Glenn Lethbridge. “The long-term goal is to have an annual event that creates excitement at our clubs across Ontario.”
The program dates, along with the launch date for a proposed www.getintosailing.ca website, are expected to be announced shortly.
Ontario Sailing consists of 180 member clubs, sailing schools, camps, charters and affiliates, who collectively represent more than 10,000 member families.
