32 BOATS PARTICIPATED IN THE NATIONAL BANK EASTER SEALS CHARITY REGATTA RAISING $165,000

Easter Seals Regatta

There was sun, sun and fun at last weekend’s National Bank Easter Seals Charity Regatta at the Royal Vancouver Yacht Club. Thirty-two boats participated in the PHRF handicap race with flying sails and no-flying sails divisions, and helped raise $165,000 for Vancouver Easter Seals House. Funds raised by the event support the day-to-day operations of this special place.

“We are deeply touched by the heart warming support of all the boat sponsors and boat skippers as well as the many spectators and volunteers who participated in this event,” said Easter Seals President and CEO Stephen Miller. “Your efforts will go a long way in helping to provide
support and comfort for children and their families who need to come to Vancouver for urgent medical care at Children’s Hospital.”

The Easter Seals Cup was awarded to ‘Honey Badger’, skippered by Gordon Shannon.  And once again, this year’s top fundraisers were Rick Reynolds & Vic Bishop, who raised $4,200 in boat sponsorships.

Other winners:
Flying Sails: Honey Badger                                  Skippered by: Gordon Shannon
No Flying Sails & Crew Spirit: Miller Time           Skippered by: Adam Korbin
Best Costumes: Absolute Kaos                            Skippered by: Reigh North

This event would not have been possible without its sponsors, including title sponsor National Bank.

“We are very proud to once again have the opportunity to support Easter Seals, and make a difference in the lives of children and their families,” said Steven Fleckenstein, Managing Director and head of Fixed Income, National Bank. “Our focus is on children’s well-being and the more we can do for them helps us fulfill our mandate to be good corporate citizens.”

Vancouver Easter Seals House, on Oak Street, has 49 rooms and provides a low cost, caring place to stay for more than 100 parents and children every night – totalling approximately 30,000 stays per year. It provides a place for families to stay when they are faced with medical trauma, needed treatment or surgery. Doors are open to every child, no matter what their medical condition including autism, cancer, leukemia, juvenile diabetes, and premature babies.

Also a special thank you to the Royal Vancouver Yacht Club, Canadian Yachting West, Pacific Yachting, Global BC, Shaw
