Boston Whaler Achieves 3 Million Hours Without Lost Time Incident
Boston Whaler is proud to announce that its manufacturing facility has reached three million hours without a lost-time accident or illness. The facility has a long history of emphasizing and practicing worker safety in the production of its high-quality, “unsinkable” boats.
“Safety and quality are a part of the Boston Whaler culture, and the extraordinary achievement of three million hours is a testament to that commitment,” says Boston Whaler President, Tim Schiek. “Our employees care about what they do, and about the Whaler brand. This record is affirmation of that passion.”
A commitment to best practice, constant technical improvements and open communication has resulted in Boston Whaler’s incredible safety record. All employees must adhere to not only the Company’s strict standards, but also those of external oversight organizations, such as the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). State-of-the-art equipment and technical upgrades ensure the most seamless production possible, and written safety policies and procedures are continually updated based on new equipment, new products or suggestions from employees.
Boston Whaler puts great effort into getting all employees involved with its safety programs. Employees can submit their suggestions for how to improve certain aspects of manufacturing safety—from the smallest detailed procedures to general day-to-day processes. As a bonus, employees receive appropriate recognition when their safety proposals have been successfully implemented.
“Safest boats, safest employees,” Schiek continues. “That has been our motto as we’ve moved toward and beyond the three million hours.”
