Mercury – Canada Sponsors Tammy Wolf and Rouen Women’s Team

At the 48th-annual, 24 Heure Motonautiques de Rouen, Mercury – Canada has sponsored, Canadian Powerboat Champion, Tammy Wolf and the Rouen Women’s Team.

“The 24 Hours of Rouen is legendary in powerboat racing, it is one of the toughest events in history. Mercury is proud to be involved with this event and is thrilled to make history with this extremely talented team.” Georges Jalbert, General Manager, Mercury Canada.

Tammy will be the first Canadian to race in this world famous event. Her family has a long history with Mercury, her father, Fred Wolf, was a dedicated employee for over 25 years. Tammy was first introduced to powerboat racing at a young age while accompanying her father to the races. “Mercury is a phenomenal company and the leader in the marine industry. Mercury’s employees have always been like family to me. It’s great to be back home racing a Mercury.” Tammy Wolf.

Olympic Team Rouennais Manager, Albert Hericher and Operations Manager, Carl Kinder handpicked the top international female athletes. Tammy partnered with female powerboat driver, Marie-line Hericher of France, Bimba Sjoholm of Sweden, and Mette Bjerknaes of Norway. With Mercury’s support these ladies were the first international all-female team to compete in Class 2 (Formula 2) at this event.

The 24 hours of Rouen is a total of 24 hours of action, driver changes every 2 hours, extremely rough water, where engines, boats, and drivers endure an incredible beating. Just to finish is testament in itself to the drivers and equipment.

Before the race, Tammy Wolf said, “Rouen is a unique and challenging race, we turn right instead of left, have 4 to 5 foot chop and race under bridges. We have commercial barge traffic on the course with us, and over 45 boats from competing teams. This should be a phenomenal experience as a driver and a wonderful opportunity to represent our sponsors, team, and country.”

One of the team’s goals is to become as eco- friendly or “green” as possible. The team is supported by companies that work hard to preserve the environment such as Motul and Peters and May.

In 2011, Mercury Racing was awarded the Environmental Award for Economic Feasibility and Sustainability by the Union International Motonautique (UIM). The UIM is the world governing body for all power boating activities.
