North American Safe Boating Awareness Week – Hoist Your Sails!

The following message is brought to you by the Canadian Safe Boating Council (CSBC): IT’S Time to start your engines, hoist your sails and grab your paddles! North American Safe Boating Awareness Week 2012 is on the horizon and it’s time to get busy!

Volunteers are the backbone of Safe Boating Awareness Week! It was through your efforts that, in 2011, we were able to deliver safe boating messages across the country through over 80 million media impressions on television, radio and newspapers. But more importantly, your efforts are saving lives. Proof positive is the Lifesaving Society’s 2011 National Drowning Report which indicates that boating-related drownings (2005-2007) are down 13% from those in 2002-2004.

So, now it’s time to roll up our sleeves and get engaged for the 2012 Safe Boating Awareness Week campaign. There are new Radio PSAs, updated TV PSAs, timely articles, magazine ads and more that will help you to reach out to your fellow Canadian boaters directly and through the media. We’re also out to beat last year’s World Record of 1,685 PFD inflations with our Ready, Set, Wear It Activity that will kick off the week on Saturday, May 19th.

There’s nothing like the satisfaction that comes from knowing that you are making a difference, and we have the tools and activities to help you do just that! Register right now as a 2012 campaign volunteer by sending an email with your contact information to me at sbaw@csbc.ca or give me a call at 905-719-5152. Together we can make the start of this boating season meaningful and fun while promoting boating safety!
