Ontario Sailing Announces the “Legends of Ontario Sailing” Award Winners

Ontario Sailing has announced the “Legends of Ontario Sailing” Award Winners as part of their program to, “Honour the Past to Inspire the Future.”

The inaugural year for the “Legends of Ontario Sailing” award was 2010, during the Ontario Sailing Ruby Gala.  The award will be presented each year during Ontario Sailing’s annual fundraising gala.  Recipients for the first year of the award were the brave crews of Evergreen (RHYC) and Magistri (RCYC) that survived and endured the great storms that hit the 1979 Fastnet race.  Many of the crew members and their loved ones were in attendance and some incredible stories were shared from their experience.

The 2011 winners are George Cuthbertson, George Cassian (deceased), George Hinterhoeller (deceased), Erik Bruckmann and Rob Ball. They are being recognized for their significant contribution as the “Builders of C & C Yachts”.  This group of pioneers and revolutionaries built the first large cored hulls and changed the design and construction of yachts for the future.

The group (including members of their families) will be recognized at this years Celebration of Sailing event being held on Saturday, April 2, 2011 at the Boulevard Club in Toronto. Tickets can be ordered by calling Kathy at Ontario Sailing at 1-888-672-7245
