Recyclable PVC Marine Decking Hits Canadian Markets

New to marine distribution, but one of Canada’s leading domestic wooden decking suppliers is set to benefit from the global product launch of a new PVC boat decking product, manufactured by British firm Wilks.

Sunrise Woodworks Corporation, based in Nanoose Bay in British Columbia, is distributing the recyclable Dek-King product, offering boat builders and restorers a green alternative to traditional teak decking. The synthetic teak deck has a textured non-slip surface that is easy to maintain.

Wilks, of Essex in England, have been granted the rights to license its Dek-King product under a patent from competitor Flexiteek.

Anne Shroeder of Sunrise Woodworks Corporation said: “We’re very pleased to be working with Wilks, who are extremely experienced in our industry.  Given that Dek-King is low maintenance, recyclable, easy to fit and looks like the real thing, we’re sure this product will be really well received throughout the country.”

Joint Managing Director of Wilks Chris Berry said: “We like to be as environmentally friendly as possible and were highly commended for our recycled PVC extrusions in an awards ceremony in 2009.

“All the PVC waste from Dek-King is saved, granulated, re-extruded and used for our range of traditional, wood effect, fendering products.”

Wilks, a family-run business led by Chris Berry and Scott Berry, produces a wide range of goods for use in the marine, shopfitting and horsebox building industries. Established in 1973, the company is one the largest UK manufacturers and suppliers of PVC, aluminium and rubber buffer profiles.

For the first time, purchasers of Dek-King will also be able to choose from a new range of colours including beige which helps to reduce a decks surface temperature – making it a vital feature for hotter climates. As well as distribution in Canada, it is already being distributed in Australia, Mauritius, Dubai, Kuwait, India, Sri Lanka and Russia and major European countries.

Mr Berry added: “It has been an exciting few months for Wilks after being granted the licensing rights for Dek-King and seeing its continued progression. Since the licence agreement was signed we have received lots of worldwide interest and are looking to expand our network of Dek-King fitters throughout the world.”
