great Boating season aheadWith big momentum now, Boating Ontario sent out the following press release.

On the heels of cabin fever becoming a reality for many newly working at home adults, recreational boating has emerged as a tremendous accessible and available activity for Ontario families seeking to get outdoors.

“When the province went into lock down in mid-March, we knew we had to get to work in order for marinas and dealerships to get the boats ready. We presented our Best Practices for Social Distancing on the water protocols to the province and the Premier in mid-April and we were thrilled to be able to get to work on getting the boats ready in early May. The announced reopening of the marinas and boat dealerships to the general public on May 16th was another great step forward and the weather has been awesome! Some of the best boating days, nights and memories in Ontario happen from June – September and we virtually have that entire season in front of us” said Boating Ontario CEO Rick Layzell.

“I’ve never seen customers so excited to get their boat in the water. We’ve launched 1400 boats in the last 3 weeks, with another 600 to go. In past years boaters would hang around the marina and wait for a sunny day before they ventured out, but this year they can’t wait to get out on the water. What a great way to physically distance … anchored in a sheltered bay on Georgian Bay or Lake Simcoe. Marine fuel prices are at an all-time low, and the water’s warming up. I expect a very strong boating season.” said Dave Rozycki President & Owner of Maple Leaf Marinas who own a total of 7 marinas

Boat sales have seen an uptick since the reopening – a testament to consumer excitement and the anticipation of many new boating families. From small fishing boats to pontoons, personal watercraft and runabouts, the market has sprung to life with opportunities for all who want to play.

According to Brett Ramsey, Service Manager at Pirate Cove Marina in Kemptville “If you would have told me that May and early June were going to be this busy two months ago; I would have thought that was a bit optimistic. The fish-n-ski models of all boat segments are a great option for new boaters and we look forward to welcoming a lot of happy families on the water this summer!”

And from Kevin Marinelli, Certified Professional Yacht Broker at Pride Marine Yachts; “It is nice to see the rise in the numbers of new boaters and young families looking to enter our industry. The pre-owned market from bow riders to mid-30’ cruisers has heated up with these clients, while existing cruiser owners are moving up.”

The opportunities are endless for Ontario families to safely get out on the water and enjoy the 250,000 lakes and rivers in our province. From rental boats to owning boats, from fishing to watersports or sail or power, boating has something for everyone.
