AIRMAR® Technology Corporation is celebrating its 40th anniversary as a world leader in the design, development and manufacture of ground-breaking ultrasonic transducers and sensor technology. Since its inception in 1982 by founder & President Stephen Boucher, Airmar has grown from a niche transducer business to a distinguished forerunner in ultrasonic sensor technology, employing over 400 people worldwide.

Company founder and President, Stephen Boucher, remarked: “Airmar has achieved this remarkable milestone through the talent and dedication of our valued team members, and consistently driving product innovation and performance improvement. What began in 1982 as a start-up producing the first transom mount transducer has grown to become a respected global corporation that’s been dedicated to the creation of cutting-edge ultrasonic technology for 40 years.”

Airmar has consistently developed and improved their extensive line of recreational marine transducers throughout the decades, and as their success grew, so did their drive for innovation. In 2011, Airmar introduced Chirp technology to the recreational marine market, revolutionizing the industry and enabling many marine partners to grow via this performance-enhancing technology. Airmar’s acquisition of Marport in 2013 and MSI Transducers in 2016 created new engineering and technology collaborations, and bolstered their positions in the commercial fishing, defense and recreational marine markets. In addition, Airmar’s reinforced team of engineers and scientists, coupled with their leading-edge manufacturing capabilities, spurred the design and manufacture of a new generation of high-performance ultrasonic sensing products.

Once the SmartBoat module is connected, the status of all connected sensors can be easily accessed. Airmar’s SmartFlex® View is a browser-based tool enabled in each module and accessible directly from any laptop, tablet, mobile device, or via Airmar’s CAST™ app. Features within SmartFlex View include SmartFlex® Alert, a comprehensive alert configuration system. Alerts can be custom defined based upon NMEA 2000 message-field values, timers, and counters, and can be combined as needed. Also, SmartFlex® Filter can be used to control PGN message traffic between the primary and secondary NMEA 2000 buses.

“Airmar holds dozens of patents for breakthrough technologies that have enabled our customers to ultimately become pioneers themselves, with many making a significant impact on their own industries,” stated Boucher. “Airmar is committed to developing new technologies and best-in-class products to meet the growing demands of businesses in a variety of different markets, and we will continue to do so with the excellence we are known for.”

Today, Airmar offers over 170 ultrasonic marine and air-ranging transducers, WeatherStation® instruments and ocean survey products to customers worldwide. Airmar remains family owned and operated, and is still headquartered in Milford, NH. Find out more about the history of Airmar at www.airmar.com.
