Twenty thousand dollars in grants and sponsorships are being awarded by the Boating BC Association to support a host of initiatives that will positively impact recreational boating in British Columbia.

Through proceeds from the Vancouver International Boat Show, the Association provides financial support to not-for-profit organizations for projects related to capital infrastructure, events or initiatives deemed to increase participation in recreational boating or help to grow the recreational boating industry in BC.

Recipients of the 2020 Boating BC grants and sponsorships include:

Grants:
• Seymour Arm Community Association: to upgrade and maintain a community wharf for boat-access properties as well as access for the Royal Shuswap Marine Search & Rescue in remote areas of Shuswap Lake
• Alexa Park Elementary School (Vernon): for two Grade 3 classes to enjoy a day of traditional canoeing on Lake Okanagan, learning about boating safety and the importance of canoeing to the Syilx First Nation
• Camp Jubilee Society (North Vancouver): to assist with replacing 4 kayaks to support over 1000 summer campers
• Comox Bay Sailing Club: to assist with the purchase of a multi-boat trailer for the youth sailing program
• Sunshine Coast Marine Rescue Society: to purchase portable signage for various on-water events promoting boating safety
• Sunshine Coast Power Sail Squadron: assist with the funding of signage for the DFO’s Habitat Stewardship Program and other marine environmental information.
Sponsorships:

• Variety the Children’s Charity: sponsorship of the 2020 Boat for Hope, pirate themed adventure for 450 children in a fun-filled day on the water
• BC Yacht Brokers Association: bronze sponsorship of the BC Boat Show September 24 – 27 in Sidney

“Part of Boating BC’s mandate is to invest in initiatives that will help support and grow the recreational boating industry at the grassroots level, and in their own way each of the organizations that have received a grant or sponsorship are doing just that,” says Boating BC President Don Prittie. “Whether specific initiatives promote water safety, improve education or increase access to the boating lifestyle, to each of the non-profit groups and their volunteers, our Association offers its congratulations and thanks.”
