Continuing opposition to the proposed Luxury Tax

NMMA Canada

July 6, 2021

All the marine trades associations are working together in their continuing opposition to the proposed Luxury Tax.

In the NMMA Canada’s last luxury tax bulletin, President Sara Anghel mentioned that the organization had the opportunity to be part of a consultation with federal Fisheries and Oceans Minister, Bernadette Jordan, and Transport Minister Omar Alghabra, last month. They were consulting with the shipping and recreational boating industry through a new initiative called the Blue Economy. This initiative looks at coastal communities and the need to protect the waters, and the communities while also growing the marine industry and accounting for its needs. Sara Anghel was able to express the industry’s concerns about the proposed luxury tax and was pleased Minister Jordan acknowledged our concerns directly and wanted more information. They followed up with a written submission, which you can read here http://nmma.net/assets/cabinets/Cabinet486/Blue%20Economy%20NMMA%20Ca%202021%20submission.pdf .

Efforts to fight the luxury tax continue; at NMMA Canada Jim Wielgosz and Sara Anghel are strategizing and developing new initiatives every single day. They expect to stay active over the summer and have more to report as the election nears and we are able to engage even further on the issue.
