EASY-BOATING GLASS COCKPIT WINS THIRD INNOVATION AWARD

Volvo Glass

The 2014 China (Shanghai) Boat Show has awarded Volvo Penta — and in particular its Glass Cockpit concept — with the Asian Marine & Boating Award for most innovative company.

It’s a hat-trick for Volvo Penta’s Glass Cockpit, which picked up its latest boat show award at the 2014 China (Shanghai) Boat Show in April. Asia’s largest boat show — now in its 19th year — honored Volvo Penta with the Asian Marine & Boating Award, highlighting the Glass Cockpit’s advanced technology and design, as well as the company’s long history of innovation.

Innovation is something for which Volvo Penta has always been known, so it’s an honor to have such a major and well-respected boat show recognize our Glass Cockpit concept, which takes safe and easy boating to a new level,” said Stefan Carlsson, head of Volvo Penta’s marine segment.

The product of a partnership with technology giant Garmin, the Glass Cockpit control and monitoring system is fully integrated, displaying navigation, engine data, warnings, alarms and other information on high-tech, multi-function flat-screen displays at the helm station. Engine control and monitoring are brought together in a dashboard that features a common ergonomic user interface. With its ease of use, the Glass Cockpit is the latest implementation of Volvo Penta’s ‘easy boating’ concept, simplifying boat operation to make it more like driving a car.

The much-lauded Glass Cockpit has received two previous boat show awards: the IBEX Innovation Award in Fort Lauderdale, USA, in September, and  the DAME Design Award for the top electronic and software-related concept at the Marine Equipment Trade Show (METS) in Amsterdam in November.
