ELECTRO SCAN MARINE SANITATION DEVICE FROM RARITAN ENGINEERING NOW CERTIFIED FOR CANADIAN COASTAL WATERS

Raritan Engineering

Raritan is pleased to report that the discharge of the Electro Scan™ is actually 14 fcu/100 ml or less and that their Electro Scan meets the Transport Canada regulations for discharge in Canadian coastal waters including “designated sewage areas.”

The Canada shipping Act 2001 with annexed Regulations for the prevention of pollution from ships and for dangerous chemicals SOR/2012-69 states that any vessel with toilet facilities must have a holding tank “or” a Marine Sanitation Device (MSD) that meets the requirements of Sections 88 or 90 of SOR/2012-69 regulations, section 90 addresses MSD’s.

MSD’s are not to be used in Canadian coastal waters within 3 miles from shore unless the MSD has a discharge fecal coliform count of less than 250 fcu/100 ml.  No MSD is allowed to be used in “designated sewage areas” unless the discharge for fecal coliform is 14 fcu/100 ml or less.  All MSD’s used in Canada require Transport Canada certification.
