ePropulsion renews winning partnership and reinforces technical collaboration with SailGP for Seasons 4 and 5

ePropulsion Partnership

Aug 4, 2023

ePropulsion, a global leader and market challenger in marine electric propulsion systems and services, has extended its comprehensive partnership with SailGP, the world’s most exciting race on water, for Seasons 4 and 5 to advance the decarbonization and integration of clean energy solutions across the marine industry.

Technical collaboration

The partnership, which was originally announced at the beginning of Season 2, will see ePropulsion’s unwavering support extended, with the primary goal of accelerating the transition to clean energy for SailGP’s operations. As the “Official Supplier of SailGP”, ePropulsion will provide its Spirit 1.0 Evo electric outboard motor for the league’s event support tenders, and Navy 3.0 Evo electric outboard motor for SailGP’s community engagement Inspire program support tenders.

ePropulsion’s electric propulsion solutions have also been used to power SailGP’s latest innovation in their autonomous race marks. Equipped with ePropulsion Navy 6.0 Evo, these cutting-edge autonomous race marks are fully electric-powered and operated via GPS, which means there is no need to anchor each mark to the seabed. This helps avoid damage to the sensitive marine environment while reducing fuel consumption of operational boats on the water.

Sailing community interaction

ePropulsion, who returns as an in-depth collaborator and partner for Seasons 4 and 5, will once again showcase its sustainable technologies and innovations at the SailGP Race Village. ePropulsion will continue its work with SailGP’s Inspire community as part of this partnership. Inspire is SailGP’s community, education and outreach initiative, which aims to serve a leading role in helping diversify the sport of sailing for youth without race, gender and socioeconomic status presenting a barrier to entry. ePropulsion will contribute to the program by sharing its technology to educate the younger generation.

Sustainable commitment

In Season 3, five of the eleven SailGP events were 100% powered by clean energy. SailGP’s goal is to accelerate its transition to clean energy, with a target to be 100% powered by clean energy – both on and off the water – by 2025. Since beginning this partnership in Season 2, ePropulsion has enabled the global championship to transition to electric outboard motors for its support fleet. The continuous partnership has helped SailGP reduce its support boat fleet emissions by 10% per event on average and has spurred them to continue actively and deeply engaging in the promotion of sustainability awareness and technology development.

“We’re thrilled to announce our continued partnership with SailGP, and to explore further avenues to tackle climate change together,” said Danny Tao, CEO of ePropulsion. “With the help of SailGP, we have identified the key role that sustainable boating plays in the protection of our planet’s fragile marine environment.

“The renewed role as a partner of SailGP also offers the unique opportunity to support the Inspire community, to assist with educational programs that create impact within the local community and most importantly leave a legacy. We are excited to continue sustainability awareness and technological development within the SailGP community.”
