IN LIGHT OF RECENT BOATING FATALITIES, CANADIAN VESSEL REGISTRY ADVISES GREATER SAFETY ON THE WATER

The National Vessel Registry Center Corp., a company which makes it possible for vessel registration renewal among other services, advocates for safe boating in Canada and beyond. Recent boating accidents, resulting in fatalities, have demonstrated the need for raising boating safety awareness as summer turns into fall.

Transport Canada estimates show that more than 100 people die annually of boating accidents in Canada alone. In the last month, former Conservative leadership candidate Kevin O’Leary was on a vessel which crashed, resulting in two deaths.

Proper rules for safe boating should be followed at all times, members of the National Vessel Registry Center Corp. have stated. This includes always having well-fitting personal flotation devices for everyone on board, as well as flares and even a sail plan. Rules are in place for different kinds of boating as well. For example, a spotter must always watch someone being towed in any capacity. The vessel should be large enough to fit three or more people, including everyone being towed.

“This is the perfect time of year to go out on the water. Seeing the leaves change on the shore, feeling the crisp autumnal air – there’s nothing like that at any time of the year. However, when accidents occur, taking lives, it shows just how important it is to make sure that you’re always boating safely. Having personal flotation devices, giving someone on land a sail plan – these actions and others do more than just improve peace of mind. They can literally save lives,” said a spokesperson for National Vessel Registry Center Corp.

The National Vessel Registry Corp. offers a variety of different Transport Canada vessel registration forms, such as first-time registration, change of address, and others.
