IMEA is seeking board members, donors, and partners worldwide.

The International Marine Electronics Alliance (IMEA), which is an American 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation affiliated with the National Marine Electronics Association (NMEA), is actively seeking board members, donors, and partners to further their mission of marine electronics safety and education. IMEA collaborates with other nonprofit associations and government agencies worldwide to advance relevant education, scientific knowledge, and testing of marine electronics.

The current IMEA Board of Directors includes the following industry experts: Chairperson Johnny Lindstrom of Westport Yachts, Vice Chairperson Jorge Arroyo of the U.S. Coast Guard, Treasurer Brian Tetreault of the Army Corps of Engineers, and Directors Ben Ellison of Panbo, Phil Whitehurst of Actisense UK, Yung-Ho Yu of the Korean Marine Electronics Industry Promotion Association, and Sean Hatherley of Navico.

“IMEA is starting to become a great partner for the international marine electronics industry,” said IMEA Chairperson Johnny Lindstrom of Westport Yachts “Exciting proposals and programs for education and services are already developing. We invite interested parties and individuals to come forth and help this great cause.”

IMEA has established a “SAFE” Campaign which focuses on four specific areas:

Safety through marine electronics by developing standards that promote safe interoperation of marine electronics on all vessels from SOLAS, to commercial, to pleasure.

Advocating for marine electronics worldwide by forming alliances with industry partners and associations. IMEA has the subject matter experts to address specific issues within the marine electronics industry.

Funding initiatives through public and private grants and donations. Donations can be made at www.imea-marine.org, or by contacting IMEA at info@imea-marine.org. You can also select International Marine Electronics Alliance and link IMEA to your Amazon Smile® account.

Educating boating consumers and industry professionals through training, educational materials, and promoting the value of participating in standards meetings.

IMEA has been awarded Category A Liaison status with both International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC). These are the world’s two leading standards bodies that focus on the maritime sector.

The IMEA plans to provide educational programs that will enable military service veterans to transition into the marine electronics workforce. This could involve establishment of an apprenticeship program through collaboration with stakeholders in the industry as well as cooperation with vocational institutions and advanced training programs for current employees.

If charitable organizations wish to get involved, or make a donation, contact the IMEA National Office at 410-975-9425, or visit www.imea-marine.org.
