INVASIVE SPECIES – TRANSFORMATIVE LEARNING

Invasive Species

Learning for a Sustainable Future and York University are partnering to facilitate this 3-day PD experience
 
Program Objectives and Activities:
• Participate in a professional inquiry to determine the most successful means of learning about invasive species and linking this learning to many subject areas
• Engage and co-learn with experts in the field of aquatic and terrestrial invasive species to get current insights on the invasive species challenges facing us, including the threat to biodiversity
• Get outside to observe, capture and identify invasive species
• Explore the application of transformative learning strategies including inquiry, integrated learning, and acting on learning to develop a community of learners and develop citizenship
 
Outcomes—through their participation, educators will:
• Receive a copy of Connecting the Dots (www.lsf-lst.ca/dots) and access to many resources to use in the following school year
• Gain confidence in using the local outdoor environment to enrich learning
• Build a supportive network of colleagues, organizations and potential community partners
• Develop strategies to link education to action in the community thus improving both.

Date: July 14-16, 2014
Time: 9 am – 4 pm daily
 
Cost: $ 150 for three-day workshop (Breakfast, lunch, and refreshments included)

Peacock has been a member of Kitimat Marine Search and Rescue and RCMSAR Unit 63 for 31 years, making him one of the longest-serving members in the province.
